It's here.
I've been telling my students for years that the next multi-billionaire will be the person who can figure out how to get all those dang plastic cards in your purse/billfold onto one card. I've been pointing out that the technology is there, it's just going to take someone who can get everyone together on the same page.
Well it's happening.
Before this year is out the boys will finally dump the billfold. Very soon they'll be marketing the mobile wallet. Just use your smart phone to pay at the register. In some places all you have to do is walk by and whatever items you are carrying will be inventoried and payment will automatically be entered into your bank account.
What does your wallet do that your smart phone doesn't now do?
It allows you to pull out money and pay for things. No need for that now.
It lets you keep phone numbers to unknown or unremembered people. Computers have been doing this for years and smart phones are just that, little computers.
It keeps pics of the kids. Once again, smart phones are good at that. Even better - they let you have video of the kids.
Insurance cards? Access cards? Appointment cards? Membership cards? It's all going to be in there. And this isn't some science fiction speculation. This is happening now. The next phone you buy will probably have an electronic wallet.
Or might I suggest, don't buy a phone until you can get it.
Big brother? Sure. If you're worried about "Them" knowing everything about you. If you're worried that "They" will be able to track you and what you do then you're clueless. You should be used to it by now. They already do it.
