Yea, you.
I'm talking to you.
If you shop at the grocery store and if you write checks to pay for your groceries, or if you use the card then I'm talking to you.
And I'm saying PAY ATTENTION!
Why do you wait until all your groceries have been rung up and most of your groceries have been sorted and put into sacks by the high school kids and the cashier tells you how much money you owe - why do you wait till then - to open your purse and search for your checkbook or for your card.
Did you forget you're going to have to pay?
Have you EVER gone to the grocery store and waited in line and waited for your groceries to be processed and then been told, why no ma'm, since you don't have your checkbook or your card in your hand, we've decided that you don't have to pay for your groceries this time.
OF COURSE NOT.
You always have to pay.
You always have to pay for your groceries after the cashier rings them up and tells you the total. Why do you stand there like moss waiting for someone to tell you to search for your payment utensils? Why do you even need to search for them. Why are you in line in front of me? Why didn't you get into that line over there with three others just like you who haven't yet searched for their payment options or their coupons or their butts from the holes in the ground?
They're standing there right now reading those stupid tabloids that tell us about space aliens having sex with our president or about movie stars who practice withcraft. They're standing there practically doing nothing at all. They know that someone real soon will ask them for money. They know that people are standing behind them waiting for them to get their slow-thinking butts out of the way. Why don't they take out the tools of payment right now after sorting through their junk bags and write the date on checks and sign them and get ahead.
Why do we have to wait until the very last minute while I try, ever so desperately, not to SHOOT them with my newly selected tube of fresh mint toothpaste. No, don't tell me that "they're old" and I should be more considerate. My response to that is, if they're old then they have been around enough to know better. They need to pay attention. If they're too old then they shouldn't be out here anyway, they need to be at home.
It's the only brain you'll ever have, try not to waste it.
