I took a head cold to class and, after sneezing, I was told "Bless you" by three people that I don't even know. Not only that, but another person Gezundheited me.
Why do people do that?
If you're one of those who bless people just for sneezing then please answer me and explain to me why folks need to be blessed for throwing snot in the air. Here I am spitting and spraying irritating cold germs out into the atmophere and people I don't even know seem to be telling me what a wonderful person I am and I should be treated in a special and nice way by their chosen superior being.
I'm guessing that most people who say "Bless you" in response to a sneeze don't know what they're talking about. I'm guessing that they don't really know why they do it. Sadly, we all have mindless habits in our lives. Ms Donna even insists I say "Bless you" to her. And I can tell you, even though I really do love her a whole bunch, sometimes I don't feel like blessing her, especially for suspect reasons.
Is there a belief that sneezing causes some king of effect on heaven? Does a person sneezing suddenly need to be blessed because of some presumed wrong - or because of some special correctness of the sneeze?
My head cold was so bad that, not only did I sneeze (with a lot of help from my blessing acquaitances) but I also had to cough to clear the junk from my lungs. When I coughed, no one said a thing. I am fit for blessing when I blow out a big sneeze but the energy spent on coughing doesn't even rate an "Amen" from the people around me. What's up with that?
I feel that the reason for sneezing hardly rates a blessing. You get filled up with energy and germs that pester the insides of your nose and nasals, you try for a while to stifle it, then you stop everything you're doing, make weird faces and spit/snot/hack a wad of germs into the atmosphere. If I were going to bless a person I hope that it would be for far different reasons.
Since an orgasm works a lot like a sneeze by stimulationg muscles until they have spasms which release tension and then give the person a sense of satisfication, I guess we could refer to the sneeze as a nasalgasm. Now why would you bless anyone for having such a naughty sounding good time in public?
